Implementation of (digital) research infrastructures for conservation and materials science
Supporting infrastructure for the preservation of artistic and cultural assets
In the conservation and material sciences, modern digital technologies are used to preserve art and cultural assets in the best possible way. In this project, the expertise of the unique consortium of the Academy, the Federal Monuments Office and the Austrian Film Museum covers all material and conservation science aspects of the protection of cultural aspects of cultural property protection, including issues relating to current art production: conservation of historical monuments, material technology of historical and contemporary materials, digital art and the associated preservation of digital data carriers. Supported by the jointly created research infrastructure, the core facility ‘Centre for Material Science in Art and Conservation’ provides national and international science, Austrian museums, collections, libraries, auction houses and restorers as well as private art collectors with expertise in the material science analysis of art and cultural assets, thus making a significant contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage.
